Keyword Winner 2.0 : SEO Keyword Research Tool In WordPress Without The Fuss???

I’ve been constantly bombarded ( and annoyed) with tons of JVs and emails regarding Keyword Winner and how it is such a great and wonderful keyword research tool. I remember when Keyword Winner first came out as in FIRST came out, waaay…. before Version 2.4 was out, there was quite a lot of hype and naturally I tuned off to it. I had quite a lot of emails telling me how wonderful it is but Market Samurai was my best friend and I didn’t care.

Well fast forward a year later… Market Samurai is still my best Keyword Research tool but what the difference this time was that more and more marketers I like were using Keyword Winner now. So naturally, when your role models seem to be using them, you will itch to try whatever they are using :D

And yes, I did… I got my hands on Keyword Winner to try the $7 trial on and see if it was really a no fuss easy to use tool. Yeah, I still wasn’t convinced especially when you see really hyped up mails about them. Dan Lew might have come up with a great tool but just like any other internet marketers, there’s a overinflated hype feel about their products most of the time.

Anyway, I quickly installed the Keyword Winner plugin on all my sites including this blog here to see if this tool is really that quick and easy to use.

How To Use Keyword Winner?

Keyword Winner is not something you can use for long tail keyphrases. Think of broad then narrow.

  • The best way to use it is to key in a broad keyphrase, check for competition, search popularity, inbound links required and then narrow it down further.
  • Repeat this step for a narrower keyphrase and check again for competition, search popularity, inbound links required
  • If you can’t find any good ones, try varying with similar keyphrases and repeat steps 1 to 2 until you find one good one and then…
  • Choose a Title + Add Tags to post. (A MUST!)
  • Watch your post rank!

So this is what I like about the plugin.

What I Like….

Easy Installation

Once you’ve gone through Clickbank and download Dan Lew’s free eBook and the plugin itself, it really isn’t that difficult to start using the plugin. All you got to do is install the plugin, fill in some settings i.e Google gmail account details, clickbank receipt number for the plugin and you will be up and running in no time!

Quick and Easy To View Data

Another feature that I really like about this plugin is that you can see data for keyphrases straightaway once you click “Get Keyword Winner Suggestions”. Saves you time having to look through 3rd party softwares and free tools which can be a real pain when you are pressed for time.

SEO Competition

Keyword Winner comes with a colour-coding feature which is really easy to check for levels of SEO competition. The colour coding tallies with numerical values of competition so even if you can’t read numbers ( I hope not! ), you can still tell from the colours. Green is good, Orange is quite competitve and Red… you don’t want to go there cos it takes forever to rank if you use keywords with that level of competition. Anything that is 100 000 and below is green competition and you definitely want to go for posts with that level of competition.

Inbound Links

I find inbound links to be a really neat feature since as it tells you straightaway how many links is required for your post to rank. This is something that I’ve never seen in any SEO Keyword WordPress tool before. Although Market Samurai does give you an idea about backlinks but it doesn’t really tell you how many links is required for you to rank well. Definitely, a great addition to the whole plugin itself!

Search Popularity

Dan lew has mentioned that in order for a post to rank well, it must also be popular with searches. This plugin tells you the level of search popularity in percentages based on data gathered from Google Insights. Basically, the higher the percentage the better the keyphrase for your blog post.

Add Keyphrases As Tags

I’ve always been a lazy bump adding tags to blog posts :P But this Keyword Winner is a real winner in adding tags to your posts! You no longer need to worry about which tags fits best as it tells you straightaway which ones will rank well, has less competition so that the you can rank easier for your posts. Definitely another plus point from me. (Note: Your tags should not necessarily be your keyphrases / keywords but nevertheless they are still important! as tags create new pages within your websites or blogs that become indexables, searchable and rankable!!).

What Could Be Improved

Aha.. I know some of you are waiting for this one.

Personally, I think Keyword Winner is still quite a new tool which still can be improved. This WordPress Plugin is defintely very easy to use and the data you get is easy to digest, interpret and apply on your sites. No doubt about it. But… I still believe that there is room for improvement. Let’s have a look at what I think could be better.

Google Trends

The first thing I noticed was that Google Trends doesn’t seem to have a month and year for the trends. I’m not sure about others but I much prefer to see a single bar column for each particular month. In other 3rd part tools like Market Samurai, the trends show columns for different month and years clearly. Some of you might understand it straightaway but I reckon for first timers using SEO tools like this, it would be benefical to have some way to see the month and year for each column.

Page Rank Checker

Another feature that Keyword Winner has is the ability to check for Page Rank on Google itself. I find it strange that all my posts are ranked #1 on Google! and I’m like huhh…

(LOL, yeah it’s true… no kidding )

Well yeah its true for the whole Blog title itself but definitely not for a particular keyword or keyphrases. What you really want to rank for is a particular keyphrase with good search volume and less competition. Tell me who would want to type out a long keyphrase just to look for something?? The Page Rank feature also won’t tell you how well a page ranks unless its at least 1-30 on the search engine rankings. I believe there’s still work that can be done to improve this like for example:

  • keyword suggestions to rank better for titles with particular keyphrases /keywords in them.
  • Increase Google Position for blog posts to more than #30 and how to get it to rank higher.

Keyphrase Synonyms

One thing that I like to see also is better keyphrase synonyms. I’m not so sure if Keyword Winner has fully utilized similar keyphrases but I believe it’s working pretty good now.

What Do I Think?

Keyword Winner is defintely a valuable addition to any WordPress posts whether it is for your blog or other smaller sites. It definitely works well.

But would I recommend it? YES!

I find myself saving a lot of time searching for good keywords and the post tags feature is a really neat thing for me. I think I’m going to spend a lot of time optimizing my post tags and post titles. But will it replace other 3rd party tools like Market Samurai? NO

Market Samurai is still hands down the BEST SEO Keyword Research Tool I’ve used. Although it takes a while to search using a 3rd party software, I’ve not come across any software that works as well as Market Samurai. For those who are on a budget and are on time issues and just hate keyword researching too much, Keyword Winner is a winner in that area. For WordPress SEO and blog posts optimization, Keyword Winner is a valuable plugin to use. So take a look here at Keyword Winner!

Hi, I too am a fan of Market Samurai. I love these cool plugins. But the problem is I cannot afford them since I have not started earning from my blog. But once I start making money I will invest in these plugins. One thing I have heard about this plugin is that it’s ease of finding the competitiveness of keywords.

But I use keywordeye.co.uk to find competitiveness of keywords.

Hey Rison,

Thanks for stopping by :) I think it is worthwhile investing in at least one keyword tool for your online business. I believe it is a must. I’ve been down that free keyword tool road for too long and I’m not going back there having seen what paid tools offered me :D Haha does it sound like im trying to sell? Don’t worry mate… I believe you should do your own research before deciding on anything ;)

See you around.

I think that the main task of an online marketer, who searches for the best keywords and key phrases, is to find a golden mean between such things as competition and efficiency of key phrases. On the one hand, keywords have to be effective. On the other hand, you should have real chances to rank well for these key phrases.

I am still looking for a keyword tool that I am satisfied with. I heard a lot about market samurai but haven’t tried it yet. Can market samurai generates lots of relevant keywords? Some keyword tools only generate limited number of keywords

Hi David,

I’ve been using Market Samurai for a long time and it has its moments but honestly, it does a great job at finding relevant keywords. It also helps you find keywords that are profitable and that are less in competition. Compared to a lot of tools out there, it is one of the best. I’ve compared the results with the Wordtracker keyword tool also, and it tallies as well. I think when there are limited keywords its best to change your search query a little bit and start researching those keywords again. There are times when MS comes up with a few based on certain rules you apply i.e competition, profitability, relevance. Anyway, David if you are in doubt, I suggest trying the software and see if it works for you :)

Hi there,

It definitely is a good Keyword SEO plugin for Wordpress. I’ve been using it until now and I’ve find it rather useful. I think there are still areas that can be improved though but no doubt I’m recommending this SEO plugin to all my subscribers. Thanks for stopping by! :)

Looks like a winner to me, but I was puzzled over the reason why it is requesting my main Google email account along with its password.

That part stopped me in my tracks. I don’t like giving out my pass word like that.

very interesting, I have been looking for a good tool to use while I am writing posts, and since so many tools today are changing, in ways that you might not even notice, the result may not be what it used to be in the past, in fact I read where some tools are now showing keywords that were basically static, in nature, from a static database, that seems to be the current trend.

Thanks for the information, I will check it out.
