One More Method to Build Your List

Do you know what else you need to do to get people to subscribe besides getting people to subscribe to your list and getting people to subscribe to your RSS? It’s one of those things that you need your visitors to take a little bit of action before you can follow up with them. It’s also one of those annoying things in which your role as a webmaster will require you to set up a separate page and possible another extra domain for that purpose. Can’t think of what the answer is? MaxblogPress Subscribers Magnet is a good guess but it’s not. Alright I keep you away from guessing too much and lose you in the process. It’s creating a SQUEEZE PAGE. If you don’t know what a squeeze page is, you have it right here.

squeeze page example

A squeeze page is basically:

Website + Email capture box + Spanking GREAT Headline + Spanking MUST-KNOW Info

1. Where To Create?

You can create a squeeze page in two ways. One is to create a squeeze page within your blog or website itself. Another option is to create a squeeze page on a brand new domain specific (setup separately) to the product you want to give away. I think it really doesn’t matter. Just as long as you create a squeeze page with keywords related to the product on either your website or a product specific domain of your own.

2. Building the Squeeze Page – Coding? Tools?

The next thing you need to do is to build your squeeze page. If you are not interested to go through the headache of coding then there are plenty of templates and freely available squeeze page template creators to help you get started. I’ve not come across any decent free squeeze page template creators but I have a recommendation for you in my next post ;) If you are running on Thesis and you are interested to create a squeeze page without going bonkers with coding, then I highly recommend Kristarella’s Thesis and Landing Page Tutorial. If you want to see an example of how this works on my website, check it out here on “start a website” Basically, what this code does, is that it completely removes the header, footer and sidebar section leaving it with the bare necessities of a squeeze page.

3. Setup Your Autoresponder

Setup an Autoresponder up and running and preload it with a newsletter that will link with your opt-in email page on the sales page. This is one of the most important step you must now miss and must never forget while setting up your squeeze page. Make sure you test your autoresponder works well enough to ensure the preloaded newsletter gets delivered to your subscribers. You need to ensure that your subscribers

  • Get the product via your first newsletter or a separate page that comes after opt-in.
  • Setup a thank you page after subscribers download that product
  • Add more free products on that thank you page. Alternatively you can recommend them with other similar products.

4. The Most Important Part of A Squeeze Page

If you were to look at this example highlighted by the red box in the picture, you will notice that the headline, opt-in email form, the bullet list of information and the overall design in general is the most important aspect of designing a squeeze page. create a squeeze page Heading – Visitors don’t have time to look through what you write. You really need to grab their attention in the first instant on the heading itself! It sounds cliché but it is necessary. The message has to be clear. No complicated language; think of it as a grand opening to a product launch. You need to get their attention with A BANG! Design – The design has to be as simple and clean as possible. You can choose whatever design format you want. I tend to prefer a design similar to what you see above. I don’t mind a plain white background or colours just as long as the colours complement each other. Font size, squeeze page dimensions information must be clear enough for your readers. This also includes things like appropriate use of Capslock, and visual cues like arrow buttons.

Let me also show you what are the list building methods in this video.

List Building – Understanding the basics and Why Build a List

I’ll also show you how squeeze pages can be used to build a list using this software called Premium Squeeze Page Templates. Check out my review on the product. I call it the best alternative to OptimizePress.

Hey Bryan,

Thanks for the awesome post!

You are absolutely right about the squeeze pages, because can’t tell you how many times I have bought something due the a really food squeeze page. It basically will draw you in really quick before you really think about stuff. When you think out buying something for a long time the chances of you saying no will be much higher.

Thanks again!

God bless,

That’s exactly right William, you really need to have a good squeeze page and also got to make sure your split testing results reveal the best possible kind of squeeze page for your product. Wow, seems like great squeeze pages seem to convince you to take out your wallet :D I hope you do the same for mine as well :P

See you soon!

Great stuff here Bryan. Squeeze pages are the way to go, whether the opt-in form is a part of your site, or you’re setting up an entirely new (2 page) site for the opt-in offer.

I’ve had really great success using OptimizePress and use it for all of my sites where the front page is going to be an opt-in form.

Hey Robert,

I totally agree with having squeeze pages. Hmm, I haven’t actually tried Optimizepress but I’ve heard lots of good things about it. The fact that it’s a Wordpress theme and an easy to set up product makes it sound very appealing too.

Hey Bryan,

That page really looks well, but from what you are saying we need a hell lot of free products we should give away.

What is the purpose of having more free products in the thank you page?

Also, I don’t know if this fits here, but a one other point will be to make a lot of split tests to determine what design and layout will convert best.

Oh, and the text, if you know you can’t sell a bread to a hungry man, then you better hire a someone to write your sales page. I think a bad written sales can put a lot of people off.

Hey Alex,

i think i haven’t been clear about the type of products to give away in the thank you page. I think it could be anything just as long as it is related to the product. I also agree that split testing should be done to ensure that the best possible kind of product is used to get the best results. I totally agree about writing the sales letter part. If you can’t write it then might as well get someone to do it. I think i’ve a real big Fiverr problem. That site really has lots of services that can help you a lot with your business. You just need to get the right people though..

Good info on squeeze pages Bryan. One technique I use is a short video for my product. This does wonders and cuts down on too much copy. I also give away a FREE CD with a newsletter. This entices the visitor to buy more on my upsale pages along with increasing opt-ins. Love it!

Yeah, you made a good point here. The squeeze page is surely a very good way to capture readers to be opted in. However, we surely needs some good offer on our squeeze page such as free ebook or software.

Hey Dana,

Squeeze pages are definitely important. And yes if we don’t have anything to offer someone who visits our squeeze page, the whole thing falls apart. It would be pretty much a blog post in a separate page.

Squeeze Page is now a must to be successful in online marketing. It’s just so effective in generating leads and converting them to sales. I usually focus on the design of my squeeze page to capture the attention of my prospects. I also prefer to use a video presentation of my product instead of bullet points. I found an excellent squeeze page article below. I hope this adds value to your post…
