You might be unemployed or employed at this stage but do you know there are a wealth of resources online to search for jobs or part time work? You might also have heard of other website like Elance and Freelancer. If you haven’t had an luck with them, then I’ll share with you this list of websites you must consider. I’ve also done a previous list of top freelancing websites that you should also check out.

In no particular order, I will list down 6 of the top job websites to start your online career or business. These are a mix up of job boards, online recruitment websites and job search engines. All of them offer something unique especially TweetMyJobs.

1.TweetMyJobs

TweetMyJobs is the only global Twitter-based recruiting solution in the world.  It is founded in 2009 by Gary Zukowski, and has quickly become the largest Twitter job board in the world. With 9,948 vertical job channels segmented by geography, job type, and industry, TweetMyJOBS is also able to connect employers and recruiters with targeted job candidates instantly any time a new job is posted to our service. Basically this company has developed their own program known as the SMARTTweet™ program to reach targeted job seekers AND the millions of Twitter users across the world. The goal is to help organizations use social media effectively to dramatically reduce recruiting costs while engaging with qualified and interested job seekers.

After signing up, you’ll have access to thousands of JobChannels that allow you to receive targeted information about the jobs that fit your profile. Job information can come to you via Twitter, e-mail or RSS.

In the US, TweetMyJobs is affiliated with the National Career Development Association as well as the Professional Association of Resume Writers & Career Coaches.

2. LinkUp

LinkUp is basically a job search engine and they have great pride in their service. Their company motto “Always Current, Often Unadvertised, Never Fakeis the main driving force behind its job listing services.

linkup job search engine

Always Current

When you search for a job on LinkUp, you are actually searching over 20 000 company websites. These are always current openings – if a company adds or removes a job from their website, LinkUp will quickly update them.  There are never stale or out-dated listings on LinkUp.

Often Unadvertised

LinkUp also only lists jobs taken directly from company websites which they call as “hidden jobs” because they are typically unadvertised outside of company websites and can be difficult to find if you don’t know where to look.

Never Fake

The company claims that their job listings are from real companies. You won’t find work-at-home scams, recruiters, or staffing agencies or same job listed multiple times from different sources. All jobs point directly to the company listing their available jobs.

Probably the most substantial difference between listings on other job sites and LinkUp is the depth and detail. You will find that there are more descriptive job listings, requirements and qualifications, benefits, company culture information, and the kind of person they are looking to hire. Not only does this information help you determine if the job is one you should apply for, but it also helps us serve excellent matches to the job search queries you run on our site.

3. SimplyHired

SimplyHired.com was launched in US in 2005 and they claim to be the largest job search engine on the web. Basically what they do is similar to what Donanza does. They both bring together postings from the top job boards, newspapers, content sites, associations and organization career sites to offer you a single, powerful job search tool. Our site allows you to narrow job results by occupation, location, job type, level of education, and experience.

Simply Hired also connects your social networks just like Donanza with job search.

4. Donanza

donanza work from home

Donanza is also a job search engine similar to SimplyHired and Linkup. You can read my review of Donanza here.

5. Indeed

Indeed pioneered the job search engine concept. Since 2004, Indeed was selected by Time Magazine as one of the Top 10 Websites, by PC Magazine as one of the Top 100 Classic Web Sites and by PC World as one of the Best 50 Websites. Indeed’s search engine for jobs is now a global destination in many languages.

The beauty of Indeed, Donanza, SimplyHired and Linkup is that they all allow you to be job publishers on your blog/websites, giving you the opportunity to make money online. If you know Donanza, you know the concept behind this and it’s very similar between these 4 job search engine websites.

6. Monster

If Monster is not on any top Online Job Recruitment list, then it is NOT a true list. They are truly the Grandfather of digital recruiting which soon led many online job companies follow in their footsteps. If you are looking for an online job recruiting website with a truly global reach, then you’ve come to the right place. One of the main reasons is their strong partnership with leading newspaper agencies as well as valuable online advertising space for leading websites giving them a very strong global presence.

Monster also have their own Publisher program but it is still in its Beta testing stage.

This list will keep growing so you might find more being added up later on, so be sure to come back if you feel like you need to get a good list!

Your résumé is the first step in the process of a strategic career move. The résumé is an essential piece to all types of job searching approaches, as well as playing a crucial role through the interview and selection processes.

One of the most useful techniques for constructing your résumé is to focus it on a specific target job, and then go through and deconstruct the deliverables of that job from other related job postings. Accomplishing this successfully will generate a résumé that not only opens doors toward future career success, but assists you in preparation for the interview process.

With the public recession still in full swing finding a good job is hard, actually find a normal job is hard, so having websites were you can search for jobs is definitely a great way to study what you can find.
From all those you described I like the way linkup works, because usually the most sought after jobs are not listed too “publicly” but rather they usually call those that applied for jobs but didn’t make it.

Definitely a helpful post, Bryan. You found some great resources.

Alex,

I think there are two sides to looking for a job. One is people wanting to look for a normal job in the real world and the other one is to look for another job somewhere else i.e online. I think more and more people are beginning to realize that you can only meet one employer in the real world whereas online, websites like this gives you an opportunity to meet up with so many more potential employers. Some may even choose to quit their jobs and do some freelancing work.

Like you said, it’s good that there are employer specific jobs on these websites that can help you find work when you cannot find these jobs anywhere else. I think the future of employment lies on the internet.

Thanks for your insights.

Welcome Raj!

Yes I do agree, but there are not easy to get into for most people. But certainly great choices to consider. I think it is still not too easy to get jobs online, so it’s best to lower your expectations and start with something small before moving upwards

Thanks for stopping by :)

Thanks for the list Brian, As an additional advise to all Job Seekers whether you are applying for an Online job or a real job in your area your CV and Intro letter should be on top of your list. These two can make or break your application. Employers do not know you and the first thing that they will use to see if you are a good fit to their company is by looking at your skills, education and also previous jobs. Spend time creating a CV that will show your skills and expertise and detail in your Intro letter the reason why you should be hire and the skills that you have that will make them interested in you.. Once you are past that stage, Getting ready for an Interview is the next big thing.

I know of some people who actually have used Simplyhired and had some success so this is a pretty good site from what I know. Also Indeed seems to help people so once again a pretty good list to help people find work and working at home positions.
