Today I like to introduce to you WooThemes that can take your mind off all of the problems with finding a suitable WordPress Theme without searching for the thousands and thousands of WordPress Themes available on the Internet, while keeping blog design in mind.
WOOTHEMES
Why Choose Woothemes?
1. Plenty of Design Options
Woothemes have some of the best designs for blogs out there. If you want to take away the headache of designing your blog and avoid messing with codes, then this is for you. With close to 80 themes available for the WordPress, Drupal, Tumblr, Expression Engine Platform and recently Shopify, you won’t ever run dry of themes to consider.
But bear in mind not all themes are compatible with the different platforms. But I have to say, that compatibility issues is becoming less of a problem as Woothemes strive to add compatibility for their products.
Another reason why Woothemes is something you should consider is that they also have their own free themes. Though not many, they are certainly worth considering.
2. Test Drive Themes FREE
If you want to give it a test run before buying any theme, you can even register and log on to have a look at the interface and play with the design options available on Woothemes.
An example of a selection of themes on Woothemes is right here,
3. Flexible Easy to Use Intuitive Design Interface
This is the design interface on one of my blogs and there is much more to this page that you can see. If you test drive any theme today, you will get the chance to have a feel of it and see if it fits you.
4. Unique and Exclusive Features
There are quite a bit of things you can do with your Woothemes. Some very unique design options include:
- Custom Shortcodes
- Custom Hooks
- Custom Navigation
- Sidebar Manager
- Built-in SEO options
- Flexible design, element, layout and width options
Custom Shortcodes and Custom Hooks are my favourites because it gives you more power to edit your theme. Bear in mind this involves some coding. One thing to note is the Custom Shortcodes are not as easily add as in Elegant Themes. But I must say that the general features are better than those found on Elegant Themes.
All the other features are great addition although Built-in SEO options are a MUST these days.
5. Woothemes Support
Another good feature about them is their support. Woothemes have a great support and knowledge database for each themes and general things like design and coding options.
One thing I must comment about their support is that when it comes to complex coding and big changes in design, the support forum cannot help you and they will forward your request to a third party designer which will cost you depending on the complexity of the task.
How much does it cost?
Woothemes have different costs structure depending on your choice to just get themes or get lifetime access to all themes or get more design flexibility by acquiring their PSD files.
Note: If you think PSD editing is not your think, don’t spend your money on that and go for something that just includes themes, lifetime updates and support.
There are 3 package features:
- Standard – $70 one time payment for 3 themes, lifetime theme updates and support
- Developer – $150 one time payment for 4 themes, lifetime theme updates, support and PSD files
- Enterprise – $200 one time payment for 1 theme, lifetime theme updates, support, PSD files and e-commerce/real estate function
There’s also an option to join the Woothemes Club at 2 different price structures:
- Standard – $125 startup and $15 monthly, access to ALL 79 themes no PSD files and 2 extra themes/month.
- Developer – $200 startup and $20 monthly access to ALL 79 themes with PSD files and 2 extra themes/month.
I recommend going for the standard one if you are just interested to get Woothemes and not worry about PSD files. I think the Woothemes Club is too expensive and I would rather invest in something else then joining their club. But this is your choice.
An Alternative To Thesis…??
If you are considering Woothemes as an alternative to Thesis, you should look into this:
- $87 for the personal Thesis theme option gets you everything and the choice to use on only one domain. My blog here uses Thesis. Woothemes at $70 gives you 3 themes all yours and you can use it on multiple domains.
- Woothemes take away the design headache from you. All you need to do is to design it according to your style and choose your own theme. Thesis comes totally plain out-of-the-box.
- Woothemes also have SEO build in mind. I’m not sure which is better in terms of the coding but I must say, the software engineers design Thesis to make it clean and simple. Search engine likes clean and simple coding.
- Woothemes takes a lot of coding away from Thesis. If you would want to focus more on designing and writing a blog post then Woothemes is the way to go. There are handy shortcodes and hooks to do pretty fancy stuff on Woothemes.
- Although Woothemes have shortcodes and hooks, Thesis also have their hooks. Thesis is still much more flexible in terms of coding and design compared to Woothemes. If you are a code person, Thesis can be designed in any way possible. Woothemes is for designers
Thesis is by far the most popular WordPress themes out there but Woothemes comes close to them. Ready-made design, flexibility of layout, some coding flexibility makes it a good alternative. Cheaper price with the choice of having an extra 2 themes also gives you a choice of using different themes for different domains.
Do you need help with Starting A Wordpress Site?
Then...use Thesis just like the pros around. Even if you are not a pro, Thesis has a great supporting community and forum to help you with questions on how to use Thesis. Finally, if you need access to resources that I use for my business online, check out my resources page. You will find goodies and gems that might help you as well.

Hi Bryan,
WooThemes is great. I just recently won a copy of one of their themes, Optimize. Really clean and simple template. And they are reasonably priced too…which I like.
Thanks for sharing!

Bryan, in my opinion Thesis as a framework can not be compared to WooTheme!

Hesham,
Yeah that’s a good point. Thesis is a framework while Woothemes is more like a theme that’a already been designed with it’s own framework put into place. Woothemes may not be comparable in that sense but I think in terms of the overall package, Wootheme is a pretty good alternative.
Thx for sharing your view.
woo themes are far better these days and they all are cheap as well

Praveen, I think Woothemes is a good alternative for most Wordpress users looking to pay for a theme but don’t want the premium price tag. Woothemes quite simply gives the whole package without requiring you to edit too much code. If you are coder, then Thesis is a better choice.
