The social networking world is an ever changing fast growing landscape. You really cannot keep up with everything happening around the globe related to this area. Here I’ll provide some interesting tidbits related to social networking of various content, i.e text, video etc.

1. Facebook Reaches 500 Millionth Member Milestone

This is by far one of the biggest news but not the most interesting though. I’m sure as of now a lot of people would have known that Facebook is growing fast and rapidly. Reaching 500 million users really doesn’t surprise me at all judging from the popularity of the world’s most famous social site.

Find out what people are saying about it. Lots of differing opinions as you might notice, good and bad (after the adverts).

2. Google vs Facebook

Somehow while writing this, I start thinking of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. Alright, I digress, Google being the number 1 website on the Alexa rankings, naturally want to be on the top spot so when it senses a disturbance “in the force” it wants to maintain it. Facebook now fast reaching Google for the number 1 spot is obviously a threat to their rankings. But does it bother me, if Google gets toppled? No one bit!

The reality is Google ain’t big in the social networks. Yes it owns Orkut, probably gaining some leverage in some countries like India but what is Orkut compared to Facebook which is the most popular social website on the planet? Google hasn’t actually made a dent with its Buzz and Wave. Didn’t create any “buzz” one bit.

So what’s their brilliant solution? Integrating  games into their rival social networking site that is yet to be seen?

3. Ask.com and Social Networking?

So what’s up with Ask.com and Social Networking. Just a few days ago Ask.com is going on a new take on delivering answers leveraging the power of social networking. Check this out

Ask.com is adopting a social networking model as the search engine changes the way it delivers answers.

The Oakland company on Tuesday began reinventing itself with a new beta service that combines its traditional computerized search engine with a way to pose more complex questions, such as, “Is it cool to starch your shirts,” with a network of actual people who might have the answer.

Ask.com President Doug Leeds believes that social searching is the way Ask.com can gain ground in a market dominated by Google.

“If we want grow, we have to get really good at what people come to us for,” Leeds said.

According to ComScore, Ask.com has 87 million unique monthly users in the U.S.

Seems that everyone is starting to believe in social networking, even Google. So do I care? Well maybe if Ask.com takes over Yahoo as the number 2 search engine or proof that this new way works.
4. Clooney and Miley Against Facebook?

Just as Facebook announces its 500 millionth user. These 2 fellas from Hollywood dimiss using Facebook and the Internet. George Clooney said this:

He said: “I’d rather have a prostate exam live on TV given by a guy with very cold hands than have a Facebook page.”

Ok George I don’t wanna do a PR exam on you either with cold hands. A fair comment nonetheless but less one Hollywood actor doesn’t make any difference to the internet or the opinion of the masses if you ask me. People are still going to use social networking sites, be it Facebook or Twitter.

So what did Miley say..

She said: “I’m urging kids – don’t go on the internet. It’s not fun – it’s dangerous.”

I really wonder why she made that comment. Sounds like a whole bunch of nonsense to me. I mean, who has not used the Internet before in this day and age?

Enjoy!
